Department of sports and training is the departments in vigilante group of Nigeria, it plans for and coordinate all the activities to meet the training needs of the agency, the department coordinate the recruitment process of the agency, staff and manpower development, sports and training department coordinate to training and retraining of the officer and men of the agency, it is specifically saddled with the task of formulating and implementing policies on training and sports to manpower development to keep the agency in alignment with the dynamic nature of the society, through its activities, the department works assiduously to ensure that the agency executes it’s cardinal responsibilities of preservation of peace and order in the society, the department of sports and training is headed by the Directorate Ebosele Michael.

In view of the importance attached to the sports and training department of the agency, especially on the standard and uniformity the departments at the zonal and state command level, therefore, it coordinates all activities of the agency with regards to sports and training manpower development from the national headquarters Abuja, at this level, it operate the six zones in cluding fct.

Governing Council Expand

The Governing Council of the VGN Training School.

The National Directorate of Sports and Training after due authorization from NEC will constitute a Governing Council for the National Training School that will oversees its operations, sets policies, and ensures the school meets its objectives.

The Governing Council responsibilities include:

1. Setting the school’s vision and mission.
2. Approving training programs and curricula.
3. Overseeing budget and resource allocation.
4. Ensuring quality standards and accreditation.
5. Appointing key personnel, including the commandant.
6. Reviewing and updating policies and procedures.
7. Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
8. Providing strategic guidance and support.

The members of the Governing Board include:

– Chairman: The National Chairman and Commandant General
– The Administration Department
– The National Director of Sports and Training
– Representative from the Ministry of Interior or Defense
– Commandant of the National Training School
– Deputy Commandant of the National Training School
– Representative from the Department of State Services (DSS)
– Representative from the Nigerian Army or Navy
– Senior officers from the VGN.
– Experts in relevant fields, such as counter-terrorism, tactics, or training.
– Representative from the Nigerian Police and NSCDC
– Representative from the military
– Expert in counter-terrorism from the Universities of Ibadan, Ife, Lagos, Oye-Ekiti, FUNAB and Akure including experts in education, psychology and human resources.
– Legal advisor

The Governing Council will plays a crucial role in ensuring the VGN National Training School operates effectively, efficiently, and in line with National Security objectives.

The structure of the VGN National training school comprises:

1. Commandant: The head of the training school, responsible for overall leadership and strategy, management and operations.

2. Deputy Commandant’s Office: Assists the Commandant and oversees specific aspects of the school.
3. Administration: Overseeing the general administration of the training school.

3. Departments:

– Training Department:
Designs and delivers training programs. – Operations Department:
Manages logistics, facilities, and resources.

– Administration Department: Handles personnel, finance, and records.

– Support Department:
Provides medical, IT, and other support services.

4. Training Units:

– Basic Training Unit:
Focuses on new recruit training. – Advanced Training Unit:
Provides specialized training for experienced personnel. – Specialized Training Unit:
Offers expert training in specific areas (e.g., counter-terrorism, tactical operations). 5. Training Committees:
Are Various committees focused on specific aspects of training, such as curriculum development, training standards, and evaluation. – Curriculum Development Committee:
Designs and updates training curricula. – Training Standards Committee:
Ensures adherence to training standards. – Evaluation Committee:
Assesses training effectiveness.

6. Support Units:

– Library and Resource Center:
Provides access to relevant materials and resources.

– Simulation and Training Aids Unit: Develops and maintains simulation training tools.

– Medical Unit: Provides medical support and services.

– Logistics and Supply Unit:
Manages procurement, storage, and distribution of training materials and equipment. 7. Cadet Corps: The trainees or students undergoing training.
– Squads, Platoons, Companies, and Battalions .

8. Faculty and Staff:

– Instructors and trainers. Experienced instructors and trainers who deliver training courses.

– Administrative staff: Handles logistics, finance, and personnel management

– Support Staff: Includes medical, IT, and maintenance personnel.

9. Advisory Board: Comprises experienced professionals and experts who provide guidance and advice.

10. Quality Assurance Unit: Monitors and evaluates the school’s performance and quality of training.

11. Research and Development Unit: Conducts research and develops new training methods and materials.

12. Medical Unit: Provides medical support and services to trainees and staff.

13. Library and Resource Center: Provides access to relevant books, journals, and online resources.
